speakers on rear strut tops? (any pics)

Hi I'd like to know what speakers on the strut tops look like next to the parcel shelf. Apparently this is where they should be fitted. Anyone got any pics? What size speakers go there?

Im sure that sounds awesome but its not what I'm looking for. I'm not sure why fitting a decent sound system in the car has to be made fun of. I'm an audiophile and love sound quality. OK the R isn't ideal but for now its what I've got and I love the lil car. I'm trying to do this properly and maintain a quality OEM look. If it ends up chavvy I'll not be happy. Come on guys, help me out. I'm not trying to ruin my R.

ONCE A FUCKIN GEN

why don't you get a frikkin measuring stick out and measure the feckin bits you need to measure to suss out what frikkin speakers will frikkin fit.

Once you have sussed out what size speaker is gonna fit you will then have to go through the speaker manufacturers catalogues to find out what speakers will fit.

It's easy once you know how to do it.

Thanks for the suggestion. How helpful of you. You know that a high percentage of the appeal of the car was the community behind it. Its responses like that which spoil it.

to be honest if you wanted sound quality youd need to change a lot on your car.as i think you have bc coilover, even on soft setup i think youll find the speakers will rattle and distort most of the time.my 1st gtir had speakers there when i bought it and it had kyb sr shocks i eventually took the speakers out as they were useless

I'm sorry but i don't agree.

use your imagination, do you want them fitted under the parcel shelf sides or on top, what make of speaker do you really like and do they do them in the size you need/want.

you might not like what other people like...you're an audiophile and as one you'll know that different speaker manufacturers voice their speakers differently, maybe your choice of amp doesn't work with their speaker etc etc

Come up with something that might inspire others instead of just following the crowd.....

In other words, get your tape measure out and do some of your own legwork

OK I can work with that. My idea was to fit some Alpine SPX-13ref component speakers in the strut tops and have the tweeters mounted higher towards the ceiling but facing towards the front of the car. I will have the Alpine SPX-17ref in the front of the car discretely fitted. The head unit will be the Alpine CDA-9887 with Audyssey sound correction (calibrated using imprint) and the amplifier will be the Alpine PMX-6. The car will be dynamatted using the dynamat superlite.

So if you know what stuff you want to fit (or already have it) why do you want pictures of someone elses setup?

This isn't a loaded question, i'm genuinely interested.... how old are you? Is there a clue in your username?

I'm interested to see what it looks like finished and to hear others opinions on placement. I know its frowned upon here to have hifi in your car, however I believe that if done properly it can complement it. On the other side, there's always a monotonous trip to be done at some point and a nice sound system makes that easier to bear.

I'm also 1 eye on weight because I've not forgotten what my R is for lol, however I've offset that by throwing out my spare wheel lol.

I have audio in the R cos the 'goose is so effing loud... (my excuse anyway).

Are you saying you want to put comps in the rear?

Just go with 6.5 comps up front (mid and tweeter mounted in the door card) and a 10inch sub in the boot, all amp'd.

If you haven't already bought the Alpines, choose something else, there is better stuff out there for the same price. www.caraudiodirect.co.uk is pretty good.

Some people like the effect of having a bit of sound coming from the rear (god knows why, its not like you normally listen to music from behind), in which case you can place small coaxials on the parcel shelf and happily run those off the HU's internal amp, so you should only need one amp.

You can fit 6.5's in the oe door cards/pods with a bit of clever trimming.

To offset the extra weight, add boost :-D

aye, good fronts and a bass setup is hard to beat.

I'm with cruise, don't know why people like sound coming from the rear.

I like to have the rears, but not so that it sounds like it's coming from behind me; more so that it doesn't sound like it's coming from my feet. - I play with the front/back balance until it sounds neutral to me.

Plus if I've got passengers in the back (which does happen occasionally), they like to be able to hear too.

...but you look like a complete douche driving with headphones on (unless you're actually in a rally car between stages).

Incidentally, here's a picture of that strut top:

And they look like idiots don't they? Music is so important to them that they have to use an iPod when they drive instead of (a) any one of the numerous iPod adators for stereo - most have an aux in at the very least. (b) being able to hear what's going on around them (like cars honking horns or the noise of a lorry bearing down on them).

Have to agree there about people driving round with earphones on :der:

Here you go, these where in my car when i bought it. It had 6x9's cut into the rear trim panels either side of the rear seats too  I removed the lot as you can't get to the adjustment knobs on top of my rear struts with them fitted.

That part number on the back probably gives you the size; 10295? I'd guess 10cm from that although it looks like you could go bigger if you wanted.
