1st gear gone ? help

my gearbox has started to loose 1st gear it will
let me select it sometimes ,all the rest of the gears select
ok ,it did have a whine in first ,does this mean its fooked
or could it be selector fault ,has any one else had this prob
and how much it cost to sort ?

Sounds like it might be the input shaft main bearing, basically the sooner you get it fixed the cheaper it will be, if it strips first gear you'll need to replace the input shaft which aint cheap!

its quite a common problem, first gear always seems to whine, only worry if it gets louder, could be worn syncros for the gear, but i wouldnt worry to much try changing your gearbox oil, that usually helps

finshed work early today so i couldtake
the pulsar to a garage to get gears looked
at but now ive lost 1st & 2nd gear it wont even
let me get past the 3rd & 4th selecting position
in neutral if u push left and up u get third
could it be selector? i havent seen how its
set up and cant cause its upto its rims in snow :shock:

have checked under car today all linkages
appear fine is there anything else on box
that can be checked 4 selection problems
without removing the box anything,anyone?:[

got it right randy input shaft mainbearing had collapsed
and bits of it stuck in selector ,had all bearings replaced
to the toon of £450 of my best pounds ,was i mugged
mech did it with the box in situ and he said diff could not
be removed but could withdrawn enough to get all the
shit out

workin fine now on to the other list of probs

Sounds a good price for garage rates. I did one last week and found you couldn't pull the diff right out. Was going to take pics took my camera with me grabbed it to take a pic and realised i left the memory card in the pc at home! Doh! :lol:
