215-40-16 tyres???

i would like to fit 16 wheels to my gti-r .i also liked some 17 with 205-40 rubbers, but i am afraid they will too big and cause driving problems...is that wrong??
so i tought that 16 would do the job.
i looked at toyo web site and found the tyre converter and seems that the 215 -40 16 has very similar diameter to the 14 inches standard wheel.
anyone using this size?

Yes, the car handles very well too 8) Even with standard suspension

and which is the best wheel size to use with those tyres?7x16 is too small?or it is better 7,5-8 x 16?

My compomotives are 7x16 and they are fine with 215/40/16's
