Well after much Cash, time and effort my petal finally started rewarding me with the engine running perfect and producing around abouts 357bhp and 368 lb/ft torque.
Yes torque seems high, bhp seems maybe slightly low, who knows, who cares it goes well anyway for a 15 yr old bin.
Running a 3071 at 1.5bar on power fc for anyone interested, standard gearbox.
Race 1:
on way to gym and spot a Scooby ahead, turns out to be a 2 door STI and man do I hate scooby's... follow him and get stuck at lights, he starts revving...   so I know he's up for it anyway, a slight bit of road and i stay close to him to show I'm waiting too...
bit of hssing and popping later and we're at lights approaching a 2 laner and he takes off in the outside lane. I'm on his tail and had to back off 2 or 3 times, knew i had him then and we get past the traffic, he doesn't pull in to inside lane and I'm about to go up inside when he finally does at about 110ish, straight past him then before approaching traffic again. he nods in fairness to him and we head back to our tracks.
So a good try, was happy that I had him with ease though.
Race 2.
on way to cinema about 30miles from local for teh spin on a nice sunday evening with the boys. one driving a 2 door Sierra Cosworth, other driving a ST205 GT4 running 1bar.
So nothing special, but still wanted to see. on to the open road and gt4 makes the move. I passed him like he wasn't even boosting. surprised at teh difference.
Cossie wouldn't even try then neither for the rest of the route...
Fortunately, we come across another mate in his E46 M3. Gorgeous car in Estoril Blue, 2004 and mint. he was coming against us and turned around after us on seeing what we were up to. we pull in and quick chat before he agrees to come for the drive.
we watch as he takes off sideways and away we go, i pull out second and the lads behind, up to the M3 and both of us going hard between 70-120mph. back roads and not the best so can't go anymore, plus tad bit of traffic.
I had a tiny bit on the M3, nothing to write home about and certainly not enough to pass in between the speeds we were doing.
Was impressed at how little there was in the 2 to be honest, thought I'd have more but obv the transmission losses, and speeds we were doing negated any power and weight advantage I would have had. I did hav an extra passenger but even so.
Gt4 and cossie nowhere near.
€10k GTI-R and €65k M3 virtually level.
I'll take that.
Race 3:
Again teh M3, this time I'm ahead and seeing if I can pull anything, only speeds of 50-90 though and not much in it again. M3 can't even pull out though and just holds on.
We both agree the R has it on Launch, and up to 60 but after that there's next to nothing in it to be honest.
Race 4:
crawling along dualer and a scooby comes past doing about 120, drop a gear and off after him, I note a WRX badge on teh rear but going a bit faster than that.
a few mins later he's flat out again and I'm inchs behind , he knows he's beat but won't pull in. traffic then and its all over but he puts on hazards anyway.
Turns out to be a 2 door STI with a WRX badge on rear
Summary:
Scooby's are as shite as I thought.
E46 M3's are absolutely class.
Cheap GTI-R can't be beaten by supercar worth 5 times more.
OH, and of course now the R has a few niggly things wrong again, fortunately not really engine related per say.
Now I need water pump, bushings it seems, shocks, and then yesterday as I touched 140 the ABS light came on to say hi to me.
Yes the car is getting used. its my everyday car and I didn't go through the modding and rebuilding process to drive like a nancy.
If you want to beat an E46 M3, do it off the line as little to nothing in it after 50+ imo.
Now I'm off to get repairs done oh, and oil cooler fitted Eek!!! (up to over 110degrees against M3) before Santa Pod in 5 weeks...
