Brake problem

my brakes seem to be very soft untill the car is reving high when they go hard some times on tick over they are hard. if they are soft just release the pedal and press again and they are fine.

i have checked the non retun valve in the suction line it seems to work fine, when i took it off the servo end there was a hiss as the pressure was relieased so it is holding suction. could this be down to old oil or what could it be.

I could do with knowing as its going for an mot in a few weeks :?

I had this, and found I had a (very very) seized rear caliper. After repairing that and replacing the brake fluid with some DOT 5.1 it got rid of the soft-then-hard pedal.
