Car still won't run.

My R still won't fire up :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

I'm still getting fault code 12 (airflow meter circuit), its definatly not the airflow meter cos i've borrowed one off a mates R and tried that. If i disconnect the airflow meter the fault code test comes up clear :?: Usually these cars will run with the airflow meter disconnected, how come mine won't? Also the ecu relay still isn't energising, it has to be clicked across and held in contact by hand (or sellotape  )

I've got fuel and spark to the engine so why won't the f**king thing run  :x

I was almost at the box of matches and can of petrol stage earlier  But i've calmed down a bit now :?

i thought you sorted all this out? :p quit playing around and light the damn torch  (only kidding) so have you swapped with known good relay? checked the supply to relay?checked earth to relay? plug are getting wet yes/no? are you sure injector are firing? plug aren,t fouled up are they?

What a pr1ck i am  Should've checked the plugs weren't fouled really

The car is firing up now but its still got a misfire and coming up with an air flow meter fault. I'm still getting 10 volts at the ecu pin for the air flow meter when it should be about 1 volt, but the voltage does increase when you rev it, so i take the air flow meter is working.

I could be wrong but.................

After a bit of checking around i've worked out that the white/green wire that goes from the ecu relay to pin 4 on the ecu should be the earth/negative for the feed to energize the relay. The relay should energize when you turn the ignition on but it dosen't :? But if i run a wire from an earth on the body and touch it on that white/green wire then the relay energizes (but still dosen't switch on/off with the ignition)

As that white green wire comes from the ecu i'm starting to think that the problem could be with the ecu :(

But even when i earthed the white/green wire to a ground on the body so the relay was working i'm still getting an airflow meter fault and the car is still running like a bag of sh1t

I don't know if these 2 problems are connected or not (connected? get it  )

Anybody got any idea's?

The ecu must think the afm has a problem, and if the afm is causing the engine to overfuel, it will run like a crap. So I think you need to sort this out and see if it cures all the problems.

Did you check the fusible link for the eccs relay? Was the relay getting 12v at the two white wires?

The airflow meter and all the wiring to it from the ecu is definatly ok.

And there is 12v at the 2 white wires to the eccs relay. Its just the white/green wire that goes from the eccs relay to the ecu that seems to be the problem.

But if the code check keeps throwing up 12 for the afm. The ecu thinks something is wrong with it, so maybe there is?

What about the orange wire that goes to the relay and the afm? If the white/green wire is the earth for the relay, then the orange one must be the feed to the afm and ecu?

Yeah the orange wire from the relay splits in two, one goes to the airflow meter and the other goes to the ecu.

I did completly bypass the 3 wires from the airflow meter and ran some new bits of wire from the airflow meter back to where they connect to the eccs relay and ecu.

I agree with you about the ecu still coming up with the fault code 12 though. There must be something up somewhere else it wouldn't come up.

I'm running out of idea's though :( Its been off the road for 3 weeks now  :x

Maybe the afm is faulty. Have you been able to try a known good one?

If the relay isn't energising, that only realy leaves a faulty relay, faulty ecu or maybe bad earth :?:

The airflow meter was off my mates pulsar, he drove it to my place and drove it away again after we'd swapped the airflow meter's back. So that eliminates that.

The eccs relay does energize/work ok when you earth it + i swapped it with the one in the fuse box near the power steering reservoir, which is the same relay.

One of the ecu pins must be an earth wire for the ecu, any idea which one?

Think that will have to be the next thing to try. Then maybe a different ecu.

Pins 6/13/106/107/116 all join up and go to earth ( with earths from the power transistor/ regulator and condensor)

Pins 39 & 48 join up with the cas to go to earth

I'll check everythings earthing properly next then.

Whats the cas though :?:

By the way cheers for all the help Fast guy
You must live in the problem section

Right i've checked all the earths to the ecu and they seem ok.

Just wondering, fault code 12 which its coming up with is the air flow meter circuit, is there anything else other than the air flow meter that would cause this fault code to come up? ie any other sensors etc included in this circuit?

And i've just noticed that the oil temp gauge isn't reading anything either :? Don't know if its connected to the problem or not :?:

Yeah i got it sorted :D

It was a blown track on the circuit board in the ecu on the airflow meter side of things, basically cos it was blown the ecu was thinking that the car was on full throttle all the time and chucking in loads of fuel

I took it to a local place that specialises in diagnostics, they found the problem and repaired the track in the ecu.

Shame i f**ked my gearbox 3 hours after getting it sorted though
