Hey you wonderful bunch that are the members of gtiroc, I need some help, I'm heading back to America on Satruday to finish my degree. Because of this the car is going to go into hibernation until probably the end of July. I'm just looking for some advice on how to prep the car for this, is there anything major that I need to do, like change the oil or anything, i'm kinda lost on this one. My old mans gonna be looking after it while i'm gone so I also wanna know, how often does he need to fire it up, does he need to drive it or would a quick forward and reverse and a few turns of the wheel just so that the wheels don't seize. I also threw a few old bed sheets over it to keep the dust in the garage off it, will that be ok, or would i be better stumping up and buying a proper cover, would it make any difference seeing as it's in the garage. any help or info would be much appreciated, thanks.

just park it in the shed disconnect the battery and if you can get some axle stands to put the car on (to take the weight off the tyres if they go soft) close the door and walk away ,it should be fine when you come back 
then when you get back then get it serviced other wise you will be wasting money before you go .good look with the exam's

For that sort of time scale nothing is really needed fella, The only thing I'd do is disconnect the battery or better still buy yourself a battery conditioner instead and leave that all hooked up while your gone, And make sure you leave the handbrake off otherwise the brakes will defo get stuck.
When you get back just let it warm up properly and bed the brakes back in for a few miles, And check all your levels.
Maybe after a few miles give it an oil change but that's about it, I stood mine for 16 months with no adverse effects what so ever.

No leave the wheels on the car and when the car is in the air leave the hand brake off to stop the pads sticking to the disc .A cover would help alright the keep it clean .Garef said:

And the insurance company refused to pay out for her car when she tried to claim :doh:

My Sapph was the only one un tuched and we rescued it on friday night took an hour to remove all the brick put the supension back on and drive it out one lucky acape(sp) for my car.
BUT i feel empty inside and so sad for my mates who have lost there cars.
Not one mark totaly untouched i feel lucky but very very sad.
