Crank work and balancing

I've just had my crank journals polished so far. Do you guys bother knife edging the crank?

Has anyone got a photo of a GTiR knife edged crank?

Is lightening a crank different and additional to knife edging given that knife edging removes material anyway?

Lastly, once the crank work is done, is it balanced on its own?

Then, do you bother to balance it together with the rods, and pistons? How is this work done on the crank if the rods and pistons are connected to it???

You can lighten a crank without knife edging, but you can't knife edge without losing some weight.

I not 100% sure of the ins and outs as I've never had it done, but pistons will be balanced with regards to each other, so they all weigh the same. Rods are balanced the same and then I believe also small ends and big ends. I'd imagine the crank will be rotated similar to a wheel and tyre to be balanced.

This thread has some info on what I consider essential to any build (see my post near the bottom of the thread).

PM me if you need any further info
