Not sure where to start but firing on 3 cylinders can give you an off beat WRX sound. I had that on another car and it was a bad plug.

Spark plugs and leads? Maybe water ingress?

ANy other ideas?

If your plugs check up OK, have a look at boost hoses and the exhaust manifold/downpipe area for loose bolts.
I'd be surprised if it ain't down to running on 3 cylinders tho

Sounds to me like timing is advanced only 5 degrees.

I would check that if that is not your problem look at getting a comphression tester and checking your compheression in each cylinder.

Still waiting on some shims!
Mine did the same when my Injector Resistor Pack corroded...

Also check all the usual.... Plugs, leads, dizzy, rotor arm etc...

Argghh... i was stressing thinkin i did a piston as my vacuum was kinda low on idle

seems like plug #3 doesnt seal properly so it had water half way up it... the two days i hadn't driven it, it had rained pretty badly.

a few cotton buds rolled together around a screwdriver did the job :D

thanx for all the replies
