Top mount intercoolers have been known to be used on high hp cars. The problem then will experience is heat soak after a long run or if the car sits. Front mounts are good for adding torque and useful for every day drivers where you will endure a lot of traffic or slow driving where air isn’t always running through the intercooler. They are also more efficient at cooling the incoming air charge because of their larger surface area and usually better designed cores (although the stock calsonic core is quite efficient).
