Gear Gaitor

Searched but couldnt find anything

Just bought a new gear gaitor off ebay and just looked at the one I have on which is a shabby leather one and wondered how the hell do I get it off!
There seems to be the base plate and another raised bit underneath do you have to prize these two pieces apart as the gaitor is trapped between these two.

I see pegs coming out of the bottom are these what come out when you pull the two apart? I don't want to go snapping anything apart!

I know it comes out as a unit as I had it out but the gaitor was trapped between the base and a raised bit, do these two bits come apart?
