it is getting harder to select 1st and second when you have the engine running but are not moving (ie at traffic). If i am moving it is fine. There is no crunching it just seems like there is a barrier stopping it, if you shut off the engine all is fine. Any one!

I agree, sounds like the clutch isn't fully disengaging. Also check for fluid leaks from the clutch master cylinder in the driver footwell and the slave cylinder on the gearbox. Squeeze the boot on the slave cylinder just to make sure the fluid's not collecting there ;-)
