gizzmo chip

I removed my gizzmo chip momentarily today as I need to get lower CO levels when I re-mot it shortly. As far as I was aware when you remove the chip it should revert back to original settings. However,it started running like crap and I got the check engine light up.Once I re-installed all was well.
Question is:why?:?

You simply removed the memory chip that the ecu reads from so didn't know what the fXXX to do.

The Gizzmo chip should still have closed loop activated for emission control though.

Can it be that it isnt doing as its meant to?
I got really high co levels and am wondering a way to get around it.

I doubt it would be the chips themself but maybe the ECU is not controlling the closed loop operation, have you already done the typical emission failure checks, O2 sensor, Coolant sensor, MAF sensor fuel pressure etc?

you could always stick in some PROMs with a stock GTiR code.

Stu..
