Format proposed is as follows:
First off you need a car - preferably an R
Ferry crossing - probably Dover - Dunkirk 'cos it's cheap, probably will aim for something like an 8am crossing, so full english on the ferry then
Drive to Le Mans - it's around 300 miles so plenty of fill-ups. Tend to do the first half of the journey on Peage (toll motorways) which are very fast. Then when we're a fair distance from the coast (maybe Rouen) go onto 'normal' roads. Most French plod seem to hang around the coast looking for booze cruisers to nick for speeding. Once in the French countryside you never see them!
Lunch on route - sometimes in a little cafe, sometimes in Carrefour carpark
Get to Le Mans - navigate to the circuit, French road signs are pants (i.e. there aren't any for the circuit), so there's precious little chance of finding the circuit without a map :!:
Put up tent and try to recreate Ewok Village - bonus points for the following:
Camp showers - done
BBQs - done, vital
Fridge - done
Paddling pool - not yet
Garden furniture - done, buy from local hyper market
TV - not yet
Beer wall - obvious really
Scaletrix - done
Comfy sofa - not yet
Radio - Radio Le Mans is excellent, especially as the commentators pretty much do the entire race - so end up talking complete rubbish towards the end
Flags - Always good, Usually have a Union Jack, would be nice to have a Datsun flag and maybe a GTIROC flag...
Repeat in reverse for going home.
Vital things:
Race tickets
Ferry tickets
Grandstand tickets
Camping passes
Car etc etc etc
Tent
Bedding
Cooking utensiles (can be bought there)
Passport
Spare liver

Costs (from Information on Website - first group discount added)
Race Ticket (need 20 people) €51 = £36
Pits Grandstand €60 = £42
Camping at Maison Blanche €50 = £35
Ferry Corssing (via Norfolk Line, 2 people in a car) = £169
That makes £180 per person.
Which is much cheaper than any other option I've seen (NB watch out most do not include Grandstand tickets!!!). We should be able to do better than that with a group discount for the ferry. I have a feeling that we could get a six day return for £99 which would drop the total price down to £145 :!: :!: :!: :!:
If we can't get 20 people then there are other options which I will explore if and when.
Just a quick note - I would like to get the numbers sorted out before Christmas so I can get the booking in early to make sure it doesn't get sold out.
