Has anyone tried lagging all their pipework?

I was just thinking back to an article i read in Revs i think( back in its infancy). This guy lagged all his pipes in exhaust wrap or something like that. After each thing was wrapped engine bay temps were recorded and there was a drop every time. It think the car was a GTT. It started with wrapping the exhaust manifold and the turbo, maybe even the downpipe. Then the intercooler pipework and even the coolant hoses. The engine bay temp drop after all this was done was massive. Just wondering has anyone on here tried this? Could it do away with the need for a frontmount due to the dreaded heatsoak?

the heat soak is because heat from the engine goes up into the intercooler when ever there isnt enough ait flow through the bonnet vent.

some sort of heat shield on the engine but as far away from the under side of the IC would help.
the celica gt4 boys do this for the charge cooler. they stick a 2mm sheet of alu under the cooler and it stops most of the heat soak.

lagging the exhaust should be fine so long as you have a good strong manifold that wont crack.

lagging the water pipes may make the rad work very hard to dump the heat. maybe a bigger rad and an oil cooler would help. but then you may as well get a front mount.

some better heat exhaust vents would be the best way forward i think. some sort of vent from engine bay to the side wing. like the m3, aston martin or rx7 fd etc.
this would not only help the hot air to get out faster but would also aid dragging more cold air in. not a lot of room under the bonnet of the pulsar to play with tho.

would it be worth lagging the intercooler pipework to keep the heat out on a front mounted intercooler. there must be a lot of heat generated around the tubo and manifold or is heat soak in this area minimal.looking at the photo the intake pipe is lagged but the air is then passing through a hot turbo but the pipe from turbo to intercooler is over the manifold with more radiant heat than the filter to turbo pipe.or only lag the pipe after the intercooler as this would be the only pipe with cold air in it ,s afront mounted intercooler is next on the modding list.

i plan to use the wrap and some reflective stuff on my intake pipe and the last section of hard pipe to the plenum. i' ll wrap the frontpipe for the exhaust too.
there' s no point in wrapping the turbo outlet to ic pipe as all you' ll be doing is insulating it keeping the heat in as well as blocking what airflow there is getting to the pipe.
this was discussed a little while ago. have a search through some previous posts and you' ll find it
