hot smell

When I park up after driving my R usually smells really hot and makes a 'tink-tink' sound like I've been on a real hard drive. Thing is it does it when I haven't even been driving fast or anything.

Just wondered what it is/could be and if its anything I should worry about?

ive been getting strange noises recently when i park up (havent been driving it hard either) its not a tink tink noise though, sounds like a continuous tinny whooshing noise from bottom end. Yours is probably the zorst cooling down? Does the car run ok? i.e. oil temp/pressure ok? engine temp? if so then i wouldnt worry about it too much!

Yeah, everything seems OK. All temps are fine and the oil pressure seems steady if a little confusing at times.

It was just the hot smell that was puzzling as it smells like hot oil or summat like you get when you've been out on a really hard drive.

Mine was doing this 'tink-tink'sound a couple of months ago after a certain tuner set it up wrong :shock: ,and was running lean :shock: Might be worth having it checked just to be on the safe side Jonny mate,have you got a ball bearing turbo :?: As the sound your describing sounds like a ball bearing turbo winding down

Cheers for that I'll have to get it checked asap then as I hardly think doin over 140 yesterday on a 'private' road would bve helping things if it was runnin lean :shock:

Is it something that any mechanic or a nissan garage should be able to check or would it need to go to a specialist?

Hey mate,

this sounds like one of the problems I had...

Just check the seals on the GBOX, and seals around axle,

Mine were cracked and leaking and it was burning, and it was this wierd smell man.

Check that ... let us know

AH, right.

All the seals are OK but there's grease around where I had a CV boot fitted a while ago so it could be that I suppose if its got onto somewhere that gets hot

I reckon its that man, its a very strange sweety smell...
def not the clutch sort of stink smell, nor the brakes, more like rubbery sort of sweet burn smell correct?

must be that man, i did the same, it smelled for some time...

if all other seals are ok, then its all good man...

hope its just that.

Yeah I hope thats all it is too!!!

Its just like a hot oily smell. Definately not the brakes or owt and seeing as I was looking under the car the other day with a Nissan mechanic we would have spotted any leaks and the grease was the only thing wrong. Must be that
