Ive seen loads of variations but i thought id add my 2pence
and show how i mounted my Apexi S-AFC in the centre vents in the dash.
Im always one for detail and dont like the stuck on/in,cut out look but more one that looks a lot more natural, blends in and doesnt stick out.
But thats me though.
So in brief here is how i did mine...
I used a section of a spare glovebox i had cos thats the same colour and has the same grain effect,
making it look a lot more factory style than simply shoved in;-)
1.Bin the centre vents and tunnel to the main centre vent under the dash.
(Dash off,do a proper job and dont be lazy)
2.Cut a piece of perspex/plastic to fit over the main vent, seal it very well with some silicone inside and outside the join,
so your internal sensors dont get set off on the alarm;-)
3.Flush the dash surround up to the line in the plastic.Meaure the hole.
4.Cut the glovebox so that the piece will be oversize all round by about 10mm.
5.Now offer it up to the dash and youll see the glovebox piece doesnt have the same curve to it so put the piece in a vice,
using a heat gun, warm up the plastic gently and tighten the vice slightly to induce the curve that will match the dash surround,
until you are happy that they match sufficiently.
6.Now measure out where the Apexi goes and cut out the bulk leaving a couple of mm all round where you can
file/scrape to a decent push fit to the size of the unit your fitting.
7.Place your unit how you want in the hole cut out and use some form of sealant, like silicone,
that wont damage the unit incase its ever removed and sold on;-) let it set.
8. Now place the unit and mounting piece to the back of the dash surround and seal using something sufficient again like silicone.
Let it set then....
Stand back and admire your handywork8) 8)
Follow steps 3,4,5 and 8 to cover the flap open/close hole by the vent.
Like i said its only brief but it should have sufficient detail for it to be followed.
Finished article....
