Just a quickie..

Just had a call from a local lad wiv an R askin if its possible to somehow adjust the Idle Mixture as it has just failed its MOT on emmisions..?? He has a 1992 R wiv mongooooooose and DeCat.. I told him to stick the CAT back rather than d1cking about with the fueling.!!!

However, just as a matter of course, I told him I would post up on here and see if anyone knows how / if the idle mixture can be adjusted.... Failing that he will have to bite the bullett and stick the cat back on..

So if anyone has any ideas then just give us a shout..

Cheers

I'm not sure if you can adjust it :?:
He'd probably be better off putting the cat back on.
Being a 1992 car, it isn't subject to the cat test anyway. It just needs to be under 3.5%CO.
I take it, it was way out if it failed?. Is it a Sunny or Pulsar?

If he does have a dodgy Lamda sensor it can run rich.

Cheers guys, :)

You pretty much said what I thort.. I will do a ECU Fault code test on his car tomorrow to see if the lamda sensor is working OK.. Seeing as he recons his cat is knackered Im just gonna lend him my old one to get the car through the MOT.. I believe the CO reading was 5.1% :?

Thanx again for the info..

Andy..

Thought about that screw thing on the ECU aswell but from talking to people its not to be messed with.. Its some kinda closed feedback loop control for the fueling and apparently you have to be a much braver man than I am to feck with it.. :? So no your not talkin sh1te at all mate :)

I seem to remember some kinda thread popping up about this screw thing before and the general opinion was of leave it well aloan so im gonna stick with that me thinks..

wow i actually knew something half useful, now thats a first :D

he could try some of those fuel additives that are meant to reduce emissions as well as sticking the cat back in.

to have a co reading that high there must be something wrong, i'd get it checked out by a specialist to be sure even if the fault code check comes up clear.
