Is there more than one type of standard R intercooler?

I was at a car show last week when I bumped into a fellow R owner. He was showing me the engine bay when he pointed out the top mounted intercooler and announced it was a bigger model.

Now it looks exactly the same as mine and I didnt know of any differences. Is there a bigger model available?

This is mine and I assumed it was the standard model everyone has

Anyone know more about this?

Cheers

That looks the same as mine as well. There are some out there with an aftermarket top mount by ARC (I think) which is apparently a bit more efficient.

As far as I'm aware there is only one for the GTiR SR20-DET - There is smaller top mounts for U12 and U13 (Bluebird) SR20-DET but I don't know if you have them over there.

As Sean said there is a replacement that ARC made that fits under the standard shroud (as seen in photo) but it has much larger bars so it's obvious that it's not standard.

Maybe the previous owner used it as a sales pitch to him! You never know with used car salesmen...

sounds like he doesn't have a clue, an R owner would know a different intercooler than factory if they saw it :)

The ARC cooler looks pretty much the same as the standard cooler, but has a thicker core IIRC.

It would be easy to mistake the two i suppose.
