large fmic=heating problems??

Iv got a large Fmic, a Skyline R33 i think? And i rekon this is causing my overheating issues?? I have taken out the thermostat and bled the rad several times. Its ok for a bit but when i go on the motorways it heats up loads and will keep heating up till it pops if i dont stop and cool off. I rekon its not getting enough cold air to the rad as its being blocked by the fmic? Could it be the pump? The fans are on a seperate mains switch.

Hope that made sence?

Cheers

quite a few people on here have large intercoolers but no overheating problems..it might be the intercooler making the problem worse.. i would guess that it might be the water pump on its way out, or the fans are not both cutting in and pointing in the right direction.. the water pump is about 40 quid to replace, and easy to do when the engine is out. the bearings go after a bit and the cease.

cool

yes that might be the right suggestion as sometimes the water pump/power steering belt almost slips off the outside of the pullies. Maybe this is a sign of the water pump bearings ceasing? The fans are on a switch located in the cabin as they never have worked :?: They do seem to run a litle slow to me but they do seem to point in the right direction tho ?

I have an R33 GTR FMIC too. The only side effect I noticed after fitment was about a 10° increase in oil temp when cruising, but still nothing excessive. My water temp hasn't budged and the fans don't seem to cut in any more often.

As said above, you may just have exacerbated an existing problem by the slight reduction in air-flow to the rad.

Check your power steering pump isn't loose or the pulleys loose/wobbly. Your belt shouldn't be coming off, unless a pully is out of alignment or the belt is too slack.

Your over heating problem could be down to your water pump, the thermostat, or you could have an airlock that still hasn't been cured by bleeding.

I have a forge front mount (big but not the biggest) and I have no overheating issues.

Reckon your problem is a blocked rad.

Have had the same problem with my 200, had a front mount, round town and at low speed had no problem, soon as up to speed the temp would start to rise.

Had the rad recored= problem solved

Found a local company in the yellow pages that sells and recores rads.

I think to buy a new was something like £250  or a recore was £110 :D

All they do is use your end caps of your current rad and repllace the core with a new one.

Once i put the recored one in i had no problems with overheating. If anything it ran cooler :D

i got a brand new rad off a rad company for £90, bolts straight in and measures 32mm think, arrived in less than 12 hours too, try going through their book to find a match for the R, the standard headers will be starting to get brittle by now, my outlet snapped clean off on the top hose thats why i replaced mine.
