Being the other forum member organising the GB I'll give you the info I know so far.
Specific to the GTIR? - Finding out but Wiseco manufacture to any spec.
Compression Ratio/Sizes? - Entirely up to you. Again, please understand that Wiseco specialise in the E2E manufacture of forged pistons and can build them to any spec. You even specify the type of rings you want depending on your application, Road, race, drag etc.
Price? - With the current exchange rate I was provisionally quoted around the £215 mark. This is cost price from a friend who has a trader account with Wiseco, hence there is no further discount for groups buys except for sharing the carriage cost.
Carriage, VAT and Duty all in will be aroung the £300 mark although this should fall with a group buy (because of the carriage). Teflon coated sides and ceramic coated crowns costs an additional £85 'ish all in. This is not necessary for moddest applications.
I STRONGLY suggest that those who are interested or have a negative opinion about Wiseco visit their website and do searches on google to get more informed information.
Do these pistons have ring lands no better than stock? - One failed engine, under dodgy circumstances I might add, does not justify a generalisation than these pistons or ringlands are crap. I'm interested in any more evidence.
For those of you who don't know, Wiseco pistons don't "piston slap" when cold like some other applications - this is their trademark.
HKS pistons. Yes they are good pistons, but they are not worth the £800+ price tag. Overpriced IMO.
I'm not going to get into a debate about the quality. You need to do your own research and make up your own minds folk.
My contact is contacting Wiseco to ascertain the necessary info for pistons specific to the GTIR and the options available (sizes, comp ratios etc).
I'll liase with Andy C and keep you informed.
Cheers,
Andy
