just replace the det sensor, too much risk of a meltdown without it imo, jeff

You need to fix the problems to get it out of safe mode. So if need be replace the det sensor and the throttle positioning sensor, but check the electrical plugs and wiring are ok first.

thanks for all your help.

but i dont want to replace the det sensor all i want to do is put a resistor in its place and tric k the computer into thinking its still there

if its only done it since you put the engine back in, its almost defo a loose/dissconnected plug, or broken wire, did you take out/put back the engine?
There was a post a couple of weeks ago telling you which resistor you need, but its not the best idea, IMO

trust me it dont work putting a resistor in there i tried all that because at the end of the day the det sensor is a micro phone and the ecu is listening for noise and when it does not hear any at all it goes into limp mode. best just replacing the det sensor. or another route is get a diff ecu and get rid of the det sensor and put a knock link in instead

btw mine had this same problem and anything other than putting an oem or second hand det sensor in there does not work

Is the det sensor hard to replace?
Its not the easiest of things to get to

Its on the back of the block in the middle but its well hidden behind all those brackets that support the inlet manifold :(

Look in the how to guides section, Ginga has done a guide to changing it

No need to disconnect the battery for a reset. Shutting the ignition off for approx 5 seconds does a fault code reset. Det sensors are prone to failing but do u REALLY wanna bypass it??? it is there for a good reason!!!!

Mine goes every now and again when she gets hot stuck in traffic.... I just live wiv it....

If u wanna bypass it why not get a unichip fitted. The det sensor I believe is disconnected and the unichip will keep an eye on things for you. Its a lot safer.....

Unless u really don't like ur engine!!!!!

im afraid you are wrong about that tart as i have the unichip on mine and still have the det sensor. all the unichip deals with is fueling and ignition and obviously boost with the boost controller fitted. the only way to get rid of the det sensor is to fit a diff ecu like a motec or a omex or a gems summat like that then you can get rid of it all together but then have a knocklink instead. also with the diff ecu you can then get rid of the maf too and have a map sensor instead

plus to change the det sensor if the engine still has the y bracket on the back of the engine then its near on impossible to do with the engine in the car.

det sensor can be done and got to fairly easy if you follow ginga's guide in the how to section, only takes a few hour's if things go nicely and you have some good 1/4" and 3/8" drive ratchet gear, looks impossible but it aint, mjp auto is the quickest way and also the cheapest to get an oe sensor, jeff.
