Loss of power

Driving through town today, thought id put the car into 4th instead of 2nd, but it was in 2nd?

Car felt like it was running out of fuel, but got quarter of a tank? Gauges all fine, oil temp ok, turbo gauge was showing it was winding up, temp gauge halway as normal.

No leaks, no loose connections that i can see. Could it be that im low on fuel and my gauge isnt working? on the drive, whilst reving it blurts out a 'small' amount of black smoke.

It also wont let me rev over 3000rpm?

Any ideas?

Sounds like it could be the usual MAF sensor problem. Have you checked for any fault codes on the ECU?
Could also be water in the spark plugs, have you had a lot of rain lately???
I should add that black smoke is over fueling if you didn't already know....

Cheers curtis,

Just took in down to the local bloke in the know. Plugged in some sort of engine management computer, and it was the MAF sensor, cleared the fault and all is running fine. :D
