Oil pressure restrictor for Garrett Turbo...

hi !

i have been told that GT turbos like GT28RS or GT3071R might
be damaged if you dont fit an oil pressure restrictor.

the standard oil pressure is to high for ball bearing turbos.

got my 3071R installed for long time without any problems....

any info about this ?
thank you

In my experience, if a new turbo sees too much oil pressure then oil will be forced past the seals, and the motor will reak like a bugger on the first good run. You will probably see that on a standard oil feed to alot of turbos especially if they are ball bearing as opposed to thrust bearing, there is a small inlet or outlet hole which is effectively a restrictor to drop the pressure.
If you have been running about for a while with your 3071r installed, and not had any problems then I dont think any should arise now. I seem to remember that garret gt series turbos might have a built in oil restrictor anyhow but I'm not 100% on that.
Hope that helps a bit.

its something like more pressure than 5 bar will damage your rb turbo and yes gt series do have restrictors in place from the day they leave the factory a good friend of mine flats off a designer of garrett diesel turbos and he has confirmed this for me.
