oil separator ???

just got me forge oil separator and looking how to fit it.... looks pretty straight forward but i do just have one question
on the bottom of the separator there is a pipe thats bigger than all the rest but no mention of fitting anything to this pipe......... is it just a breather ?????

but thinking about it surely if u leave that bottom pipe open to atmosphere then you are going to suck un-metered air into the inlet which u dont want ???????? wouldn't it be a good idea just to plug it up
