quick one on turbo

if my turbo was blowing oil from the compressor side of the turbo, it wasnt smoking from the exhaust but was enough to coat the bay in oil from the bov...would that be sufficient amount of oil entering the cylinders to cause a missfire, detonation or gunge up the plugs ??

thankyou

definately!
the oil in the pipe could be caused through it blowing through your breather system and back into turbo compressor housing through the induction pipe.

remove the pipe from the rocker cover and see if its throwing oil out of there when under load.
if it is, then im afraid that your gonna need a new set of rings at least.
so it will be engine out time buddy!

its only throwing oil out of the turbo its seems. intercooler , bov, charge pipes are all saturated, i mean pitted. breather pipes seem ok. bit of oil in as you expect but no where near as much as is in the charge pipes and ic. plugs are clean just very black like its running rich. its miss firing even on idle. its not smoking under load just smells of unburnt fuel.

i will remove rocker pipe tonight

right i got her running again today. Took her for a 15 minute full throttle blast with the breather off. only chucked a very small fine mist of oil out under load. nothing to write home about and tbh i was murdering it just to be sure. so i think the rings are ok.

however the turbo is smoking slightly now and the leak has got worse. as soon as the car warms up and the oil thins the oil pressure drops from 4 to around 1 and it starts smoking.

its not sounding to good if its at 4 then drops to 1 ,when u drove it what does oil presure say when driving hard & is the oil leaking on to the flour, might be oil pump

when i drive it hard it rises to over 4 when warm. when cruising it stays around 2+. on idle cold it stays at 4 until warm then drops to 1 when warm. as soon as i give it revs the pressure picks up well.
the way im interpreting it is the turbo seals will be keeping the pressure up until the oil gets warm then it pisses through the seals, dropping the pressure i would imagine ?
the turbo isnt on full boost till mid 4k now and the compressor surge noise has slowed down. it doesnt start building boost till about 2.5k either when it used to build from around 1500rpm.
does that make sense?

I think the oil pressure reading could be a 'red herring'. The gauges in the car aren't renound for being that accurate so, I think your idea of the turbo seals being shot, is probably the best one.

I guess the only way to test it is to clean everything so there's no trace of oil, then take it for a blast and check, once again if you have oil in the turbo intake pipe. If you do, it's a new GT turbo for you ! ;-)
