replaceing the main oil seal help

I need to change front crankshaft oil seal (not Flywheel)

Is the seal the same as other SR20DET??

Mr Nissan does not know

Has any one changed theirs?

Does the timing chain need to be moved? etc

Can it be done with out the special tool which is pictured in the workshop manual (EM80 – EM90 around)?

Any help with a procedure would be great

the seal doesn't actually fit onto the oil pump lika a ford etc, as the timing chain is a wet item it fits onto the outer casing of the pump and seals against the crank pulley ( machined / shiny ) inner surface. you'll see what i mean when you take it off........... no timing or oil pump removal / adjustment necessary

I've getting a gear puller this weekend

I'm having trouble cracking the crank pulley nut

I don't have access to air tools

So I've been told to put a breaker bar on the crank pulley nut and wedge
Somewhere and turn engine over!! :?

Is this the only way?

That sounds decidely dicey to me :? I would get the breaker bar, lean on it and hit it with a mallet. The shock from the mallet has a much greater chance of freeing it off and, won't destroy the car or shear off the crank shaft. This will have a similar effect to cranking the car over but, is much more controllable.

Try to put some penetrating oil on the nut and perciveer. Should free off fairly (immortal last words :roll: ) easily

I saw someone say that yesterday on another forum. It ain't something I'd try tho. You might need to lock the crank to stop it rotating. Sometimes this can be done by putting the car in gear and have someone apply the brakes.

I tried the turn the engine over with the dizzy disconnected from the coil
But don't work, not enough power or torque from the starter motor

So I got the misses to hold the brakes pedal to the floor
With 5th gear engaged

And POP - the nuts loss

Easy as
