Well buying comes with risk!..

For example why has the head gasket gone on an engine thats being run in after a rebuild... Makes no sense...

Running hot could have caused major damage...

There are loads of other issues with that senario...

just spend 1k on a second hand engine and you have a decent r for 3k with engine spares.well probably a decent one anyway.

Wonder if he's just got oil in the water and thinks the head gaskets, gone?
Combined with another cooling problem? (not bled properly, water pump etc?)

If the head gasket had gone, it wouldn't realy drive in a way you 'd want to, ie not too smooth, running on 3cylinders maybe.
