Hey guys, you proberly get a thread like this everyday, i have owned quite a few cars like escorts and corsas and know quite a bit about them, but i know nothing at all about these cars.
Anyway to the point, im soon to be turning 21 and startin a well paid job, and i have been lookin at gettin a car like the gti-r, small, turbo charged and something that no1 else has got in my town. So i have a few questions, and if any1 can answer them il be greatfull.

1. As a young driver what would be the best insurance place to look for?
2. Do the models vary such as bigger engines or 4wd etc, and if so whats the best one to look out for?
3. What sort of budget shoud i be lookin at? As its a good paid job i think i could afford up to 3.5k.

And if you have anymore advice for me that would be great..
Cheers Dan

should be ok to get a car for that money
all the best in your quest

For insurance try Central Insurance Direct - they were the best for me at 20 on my heavily modded R.

All Pulsar/Sunny GTiR's are 2.0 Turbo 4WD. There are 2 different versions, the RA and RB models - the RB ones are very rare and are basically lightened rally versions. The RA ones are the 'common' ones. Check the forums here for more info.

As for price, theres a thread about this at the moment. The outcome is generally that £3k+ will get a fairly reliable, good condition R. Go higher if you can though and always buy from people in the know (on here or the other forum) so you know its had an owner that knows about the car and how to look after it properly.

hey dan, your going to need a well paid job to afford an R as they are rather expensive to run and extremely powerful compared to your previous cars so make sure you take care when getting used to your car if you buy an R.

1. there is a whole section on this forum on insurance, have a look through and you will find the most competitive companies for young drivers.

2. the GTi-R is always a factory 2.0 turbo permanent 4WD and believe me you need it to get them ponies on the tarmac

3. 3-4k will get you a good car, you can always put a wanted ad up here to see what people have to offer and other members can give you advice.

another option is a stepping stone to the R and get a tuned honda crx vtec, a lot are around(190hp) they are mega fun, very relaible, cheaper to run and insure and will still blow your mates away.

there is one here i would buy if i had the dough!

thats an awful big step up mate, personally if i was you i'd go for a glanza V and run about in that for a year then go on the lookout for a GTIR.

BUT if your heart is set on one AND you can afford to run, insure and repair one (if you look after it then only the first two apply), your budget will get you a nice clean unmarked std one - which is the best place to start :-D

what's the big deal about him buying a Pulsar? sorry, they aren't that quick, even if it's a monster 1 Bar motor...

i've owned 1.4's quicker.

insurance isn't a killer, I paid £1100 last year at 21 with 2 years no claims with mods declared. Just because they're in group 20 it doesn't mean they're the quickest thing ever.

Sure you have.

What 1.4 have you owned that can hit 60 in under 3.5 and do the 1/4 in almost 12s dead (that's what some 1bar Gtirs can almost do, so you'd need to beat it)

Go for it.... sure you will get a decent GTiR for 3.5-4K.
Remote Start.... that's a strange requirement.
Maybe you live in Canada, or East coast of America and want it nice and warm for you after you have eaten your baggle...

There's plenty to be found with a very remote chance of starting if that's any good... ;-)

it's not anywhere near a monster at 1 bar on a standard turbo your right, but like others I'm interested in the 1.4 that was quicker

The countrys fastest ones might, but we're hardly taking anywhere near standard car are we, which is not far from where a 1bar Gtir is.

Put the countries fastest Gtir against it for a (sort of) like for like comparison, can the R5 do a 10sec 1/4? I haven't heard of one yet.
