Took my GTiR to an Activity day yesterday....first of many!

REALLY enjoyed it, first outing for my GTiR, and one of many8) As its the reason I bought the car, for track days! 8) Just wanted to do this, to iron out a few probs.. which it did:roll: :lol:

Problems found LOL :

Dont like how much it understeers:doh:
Dont like how laggy the standard turbo is:doh:
Dont like how it fuel surges aswell:doh:
Dont like the standard brakes LOL :doh:


Not to worry, all in hand... Getting a fuel swirl pot made and fitted into boot of car. Also going to foam fill the tank at the same time, tempted for a fuel cell, but will wait for the new year to get out the way and then decide.. Plus a fuel means it can be mounted in a place I like and central :-D

Going to convert to a T34 .48 turbo, and have all custom aluminum boost hoses ( I await all the comments on this:lol: )

and as for the handling, Tein Coilovers and a custom underbar set up from Adrenaline Race Performance;-)

Needs brakes, but there being taken care of too, depending on my funds, I want AP, but will prob end up with a decent disc and a set of either Wilwoods or HiSpec:-D

Car is running mild power too, Got Rolling Roaded the other day and made 274bhp /236lbft @ a Bar (14psi) for those interested:-D

Is this to reduce the fuel surge? Heard about it before but know nothing about it.

Stops the fuel swaying about in the tank giving a more positive feed to the swirl pot:-D

If you ever try and use it in competition with a swirl pot in the boot it will not pass scrutineering, better of fitting one underneath , or under the bonnet. Plus there is no need to foam fill the standard tank if you have a swirl pot. Totaly agree with the brakes they are rubish, but you will need a lot more than Teins and a brace to stop it understeering. You will also need the full Whiteline kit etc, and different settings. As for the Turbo if you think that is laggy wait until you fit a bigger one!!

the work being done to the underside isnt the normal brace kit:lol: ;-)

Wont be entering into any competitions, just fun use:-D

No matter what brace kit your going to fit thats will not alter the handling a great deal, will be stiffer but will still understeer. Its the Whiteline kit with proper adjusting of your settings, camber, caster, corner weights, toe in/out etc that will make the difference. Plus replace all the suspension bushes for poly ones.
If its not for competition the swirl pot in the boot will be ok, as long as you never crash. Because then you have a small fuel tank in the car with you, and even if its only a few litres it will make a nice fire if started, plus they usually smell in the car.
If its not competition just fill it with more fuel as the weight does not matter, infact it adds weight to where its needed on the Pulsar low down and in the rear, which helps balance the front rear corner weights. I have to do this on just 2 tracks otherwise the foam I fitted stops in on 80% of the other circuits.
To be honest a small amount of understeer is easyer to control that a very loose rear end, specially if its a tight track.
But as you said its only a fun car so go out and enjoy.

Cheers Phil,

I will be fitting most of Whitelines stuff:) , But am having some chassis work to, to help the car. Once I have them fitted i'll be making a thread and hopefully gain some interest8) so others on this forum can get the same as me for handling8)

Been proven on other cars but as far as I know, Never been fitted to a GTiR, So mine will be the first:-D

I found pretty much the same faults, i would defiantly recommend fitting the Whiteline ARB's.

I noticed a problem which i thought was fuelling related after coming out of a bend on full throttle it wouldn't boost past 0.5 with some popping from the exhaust that’s with half a tank of fuel. Once on the straights again its fine!!

Foam filling helps a great deal but does not stop it fully for track use. But for a road car its very good. I can race with less than 1/4 of a tank on most circuits except 2. look forward to reading about the mods Radders, good to see your using the Whitline stuff to. The main mod that stiffened my car was the cage.

dont know if it effects fuel capacity, It soaks up everything, So I dunno, if it does, I cant see it being alot tbh

Im 50/50 on a cage, main reason is that this is still my everyday road car! :lol:

If its your road car the swirl pot on the boot will do doubt stink. ask Si about his.
You can get a different variation on the cage to suit your needs some just use the rear hoop.

I'll be having a casing built over it, Been chatting to the guy making it and also a few friends that have them in their track/road cars


Im toying with a rear hoop tbh, But would love a full cage

The fuel surge in your case will more than likely be caused due to inpropoer fitment of your fuel pickup pipe.

As you are running 1 bar you will find that whoever had the car before you will have had a new fuel pump fitted (uprated) and has fitted the considerably shorter (rediculously so) pick up pipe to the new pump and therefore this does not reach into the bottom corner of the tank and so when you run around a sharp left bend you will experience surge and starvation.

Source an OE pick up pipe and fit that to your pump, that will sort your probs.

Also any introduction of material within the tank will reduce its total capacity, however this may not be noticeable in the overall scheme of things.
