Universal Walbro fuel pump fitting probs??

Hi guys

Just dropped me car off to get the fuel pump fitted and when I pulled it out the box Steve said ''WHAT THE F**K IS THAT''

He informed me it would be a nightmare to fit as it was 3 times smaller than the standard pump. He had an uprated bosch pump there ready for SI..'s R and they look soooo different. Infact, he also had an escort cossie in an he informed me that the pump is pretty much an Escort cossie pump :?

He is gonna have to try and secure it to the cradle somehow, but the cossie pump sits lower in the tank than the R cradle set-up. The bosch one is slighty fatter than stanard so U need to mod the carrier but my new pump is half the thickness of the standard pump

I'm hoping all goes well. Steve is spot on R tuner but if the pump can't be made to fit I'm buggered!

Any one else had any probs with these pumps :?: :!:

the walbro pump is supposed to come with a foam sleave which you put over the pump, this enables the standard cradle to secure the pump.

Drill some holes in the cradle and cable tie the pump to it and use the original pick up filter/pipe thig aswell. If i were you i'd stay well clear of the Bosch ones, theyre pretty useless in an R tank.

Got the motor back and its sorted. He didn't seem to have any probs. Thank god. Think he's done it how said Nikko mate.

Are you saying that from experience. Cos Steve has done a few with less probs than mine. And I saw one this morning at the garage and its actualy slightly larger diameter than standard so don't know how it would be crap in the tank :?

I'm assuming even though the Walbro is 3 times smaller in cylinder size, it still should still pump enough feul to meet my demand :?:

iirc the problem with the bosch pump isn't its size its more to do with the pick up not being well positioned when its fitted(as its designed to be fitted in a upright position) so it starts cutting out when cornering hard with around a 1/4 tank left :(
I have the walbro one fitted and although its alittle harder to fit I can run right down in the red for ages with the reserve light on and not get any cutting out problems 8)

Yeah you just cant go below a quarter tank with the bosch and if i remember right the walbro flows more juice than tyhe bosch anyway.
Oh yeah the bosch is easier to fit, especially if you get Norris designs to do it, they dont bother secureing it and just chuck it in the tank.

The walbro pump flows better to a surtain pressure, then the bosch takes over.
