Not sure, but if you can pressurise the cylinder at tdc on the compression stroke (to stop the valves dropping) you might be able to get away with it in situ:?:
not sure how you would get the springs off though without a lever of some sort, the tension on the springs is pretty fierce ! I reckon that even on compression the valve would move long before the spring compressed enough
I'd say at a guess its a head off job, but not necessarily engine out ( if you can get the head off without taking the engine out )
they aern,t to difficult but it involves alot of work, if you done them before then it worn,t be too bad. There are things you need to look out for! shimming/timing chain/etc
