What is this for?

Hi,
I marked two pieces of the engine bay, which I wonder long time, what are they for and if they can be removed? I think the small one is called a boost solenoid. What is it good for? Can it be removed with an Boost Controller?

silver is boost soloneids valve and other is standard catch tank.

Can I remove the boost soloneids valve when using an boost controller? Is this an standard oil catch tank then?

the standard catch can is crap if you pull your intercooler i would guarantee you'll find oil inside of it, highly recommend an aftermarket unit
