Where is everyone?

Hi guys, newbie on this board but was over on nissangtir and a couple of other forums a few years ago when i was considering buying a pulsar, just wondering why all the pulsar forums seem kinda dead now? surely they all haven't turned into piles of rust or blown up in last few years?

just going by posts and info it seems this place and others used to be busy at one point then some mass exodus of owners happened and now there's just not a lot of new tuning info out there on pulsars from what i can see which is a bit of a shame

for example as i had been looking at old brake mod thread on here and was going to suggest using a vauxhall meriva disc instead of a clio 172 disc as then you probably wouldnt need to backspace it on the hub with the caliper that was being used in question as it had a slightly better disc offset, think the only mod needed was the centre hole would need reeming out 1mm, it had the 4x100 pcd etc

always seems to be quiet this time of year i suppose, but its just as busy as ever on here, its not got any quieter. I have noticed on the modifiers there are times when there are no new posts from the last time i was on

Just doesn't seem to be much traffic/conversation on most of the pulsar boards I've been round recently compared to like a few years ago, its maybe just my perspective coming from a busier owners clubs/forums where a lot more is discussed.

Sometimes some of us just have more important things to do, like DRIVING somewhere or DRINKING, but never the two together, which makes it difficult to be on the forum at the same time.

probably not as many newby questions being posted up as they get taken the piss out of very quickly or told to do a search because the same question has been covered so many times

There is traffic on the forum, but I think it tends to be more on the technical side now-a-days. The days of R based chat is sadly gone as the car is so cheap to buy that more and more are getting bought by people who have no interest in the wider forum community, especially as people on here will refute their claims of 500bhp on a standard turbo, 3 inch Mongoose systems and street races with Veyrons etc (there are of course new owners who genuinely love their cars and they're on here, it's just rarer than it was). To back up my point, I was recently visiting a friend in London, we went to the cinema and on coming out I saw a guy get into an R, I went over to him to have a chat about his car and I asked "what forum are you on" he replied "what forums", told me some absolute s**t about the car, started it up and then absolutely hammered his poor cold motor out of the car park. (I know it was cold because I'd clocked the car as I went into the cinema some two hours before).

I was a newby not so long ago and was chastised for a thread I started about torque (increasing it without increasing bhp). I was however given a comprehensive answer which explained in some detail all I needed to know. Imagine my surprise therefore when a few months later someone started a thread that was almost exactly the same. I posted a link to my thread but they just asked the question again. If people can't be bothered to read the guides and search the previous threads then part of me feels like they're fair game for a bit of abuse, as long as they get the answer as well. I know it takes time, but none of us on here are so important that we can't spend 5 mins of our time researching max bhp available on standard injectors/turbo, or whether a Nistune is better than a Unichip, or what the offset for the wheels is, or what a decent type of tyre is without having to start a thread (which takes the same amount of time anyway).

Just my 2 cents.

Hi Jon, I'm just up the road from you (just past Penshaw) - suprised I've never seen your car knocking about or is it a track / rally car ? what's this you're taking part in on Monday - something at Croft is it ?? - might have a dodge down to watch if there's an R in action...

Stage rally. All on the trackday, approach road etc. 40 miles ish. 7 stages. starts 9am. finishes about 5. Used the Pulsar for last years event also. White/blue stripe. No.29. We are just clubman , so dont expect top 10 times. Should be a laugh though

true, but i suppose if you wanted that more oem look the meriva disc "should" fit perfect without having to backspace the disc on the hub to centre it properly in the caliper, meriva discs are also a bit cheaper so just pound on them and throw em away when you replace the pads lol, if their also bolted flat to the hub that will prevent the discs getting cooked as the heat will be absorbed/soaked up by the hub better than if its held off the hub (obviously depends on the spacer design)

its just the first thing i'd plan to do if i buy a pulsar is a front brake upgrade before touching anything else, and don't want to go aftermarket, I'd rather do it using oem parts from other cars, a front 280mm disc and caliper setup should help it stop a whole lot better and more consistently and if i can get it all under a set of 15"s then all the better.

Will check out the meriva options, so far I have used fiat coupe turbo discs (16" wheels) and vw G60 (15's) , both with success. (ie modified to fit, but they both worked fine).

Next job is re-applying some 2 piece jobs from a 106 cup car. (ideal as 28mm thick) Just bored the centre out tonight and redilled the pcd.

I like the challenge and the fact that it is thinking slightly out of the box.

ps: will have some used 303mm and 280mm discs and AP radial mount ali adapters for sale soon

172 disc's are not OEM replacements, they are a 280mm fitment.

They are used mainly for Wilwood conversions

Replace the discs when the pads run out, that's a very costly way to do things? I've had one set of after market discs on and had over 5 sets of pads replaced in their life time on those discs. If I replaced my discs OEM or not that's an expensive way to do things!

thats the site i worked out the sizes from, can search by disc size which makes it handy for finding alternatives for big brake setups, my last fast car(mk1 mr2) had a set of GT4 4 pots with machined and drilled 320mm Bmw M3 discs up front and mr2 turbo rear calipers with corrado g60 (280mm ish iirc) front discs for the rear setup, also ran a bigger mk2 mr2 mastercyl, it was running a tuned Mk2 2.0 turbo engine so it was all needed to help stop the car


i like the challenge as well....oem stuff is designed to last fairly well, some of the big brake kits i have seen over the years have been awful, they look nice sure but just crap for longevity and actual operation, and the ones that do work like AP, Willwood etc are usually just too far out my comfort range to justify sinking that cash into 1 thing on an old car

andy you can buy meriva discs for £15 from the motor factors, hence why i said they were so cheap you could replace them with the pads "LOL" hence me not being 100% serious on that point.

and i know they are for a big brake conversion...hence why i said i was looking at the meriva's disc's for a big brake conversion using the OEM equipment from other cars...not as an OEM replacment

Good link, useful. I'm still on std dia rear discs, so will try and fit something bigger later. It has wilwood 4 pots on the back though. I like wilwoods, as they seem to work, they are relatively cheap, and the pads are cheap also
