I must have called at least 9 companies today trying to get advice and prices for a new hybrid turbo for my GTiR. All i can say is OMG!. It seems to be such a hassle and a lot of B.S. Some people want to charge me £950+vat just to put a roller bearing in my existing turbo along with any other repairs needed. Others dont recommend ball bearings, others bad mouth other companies, some say they are authorised Garrett dealers and then the other companies say THEY are the only authorised dealers.
One guy from what i would say is the most famous turbo specialist wanted to inspect my turbo before hand just so i wouldnt break the turbo he sent me. ???????????????????????.
Seamingly all GTiR`s have a turbo oil supply problem which i have never heard of and he wanted to see if it was because of this that mine was knackered. i explained i needed my car for work and my oil seals were gone because i run a straight through exhaust (and i mean no back boxes or silencers, proper straight through) and there was little back pressure on the seals so they are leaking but he still wanted me to send it b4 he would sell me one. Plus he was a total arse so i hung up. Some say go 4 this spec, others say the standard one is fine.
So far all i can say that as usual its a joke using performance companies in the UK. Only Turbo Dynamics gave me honest advice and good prices and thats the company im using.
What spec turbo is best for a max boost level of 1.3 bar, forged pistons, 264 cams, L&B bottom end, quaife box, 1.2mm head gasket, Apexi Power FC as this is what i have?
