It's the correct part for your car. (ignition amp) They obviously use the same bit on more than one car.

aka the "power transistor"

can cause loss of power when it overheats...
(resolved by removing from bracket and attaching to a heat sink)

Hmmm - is that a cheap and easy mod then? Head down to your local electronics parts store (Jaycar or Maplin maybe), buy an appropriately sized heat sink (probably for a stereo) and mount it on your power transistor?

I don't really know what this reputation button does, but I figure you've got some coming your way Shalom!

original credit (from my end at least) goes to oz members ivan, who first suggested cleaning and re-applying the heatsink paste back in '02,
followed by deano a couple of years later who shared the physical heatsink approach...

note the immediate location is severly restricted by the factory loom.
some owners have extended the wiring and mounted the transistor further away,
others have made custom brackets and worked within the confines...

not sure what the engineers were thinking mounting a component (that works hard and is effected by extreme temp) on a bracket attached directly to the block

Ay, getting there slowly! still need a crank before I can put it back together though. Pulled one out of an engine yesterday, but it was no good either (fourth one now with a hairline crack on the inside of no4 big end?). I'm starting to think there was some sort of manufacturing / casting issue with them, either that or I am just a hell of unlucky.
Ay still got the lockup with Pete, but he is off down under just now, back soon though I think.
