fitting a GT2871- i didn't think this needed to be done??

Hi all,

I have just gotten in from a fairly soul destroying day fitting my GT2871. Whilst the turbo is on and all hoses etc are fitted (after a lot of fucking about) we got to the point where we were fitting the intercooler, a radtec system, and stumbled upon something rather irritating. the standard turbo hard pipe-to-intercooler seems to be sitting higher than it should. On closer inspection, it appears that the flange on the turbo housing is on a slightly different orientation to the standard turbo.

Is this normal when fitting a GT2871 or is it a traight of a GT2871 from the wrong car? I was under the impression that all GT2871's for nissans were identical?

Needless to say, i now need to cut and weld the cast ally hard pipe which SUCKS BALLS! :evil: Especially as finding a decent tig welder in my parts in nigh on impossible.

Can anyone else suggest a new solution?

simple one that is liam!
cut the pipe with a hacksaw then bevel each end of allie piping and fit a silicone joiner pipe

The biggest issue is getting some sillycone on a Sunday..!

...But i might have a bit.

its a pipe they all look rubbish at the best of times lol.
at least youll be able to use the thing, dont think anybodys gonna look under the bonnet and say 'whys that silicone connecter there':lol::lol:

all the reading i've done on here suggests it should be a direct fit...

The only loss of having the silicone there is the flow loss of the two joins and the thermal loss vs. An alloy pipe.
However, I am intoxicated at this moment, sitting on the bog, so mabe also talking, aswell as producing shit

you can butt the pipes upto each other more or less the connector is merely there to enable you to rotate the pipe so it fits to tubby.

Just take it to a machine shop that has a mechanical hacksaw or similar. They can cut it square on so that you can butt the pipes together and it'll still be as straight as before and then join with a silicone hose as boby said. Your pipe will be about 1mm shorter, but that shouldn't be a problem.

OR

you can get an adapter that fits the turbo outlet and gives you 3 new bolt holes to use at what I assume is the right angle.

well i had intended to use a silicone joiner but i went one better and found a chap who TIGed it for me. So all is good.

Final issue is we now need to heli-coil the block having managed to strip a thread. urgh...
