Turbo internally cracked

Hello, Just taken my turbo off as it would only boost to 1.2 bar. I was hoping it was the actuator but instead its the worst news possible, 2 cracks at either side of the wastegate  Not happy now but could do with another turbo, more money I don't have to spend! (need it fixed for oulton park though!) Does anyone have a really good condition standard or uprated turbo for sale that they fancy selling to me for a nice (cheap!) price??
Thanks for your time, Chris

just get a cast housing off a scrapper, swap them over in 2 mins, back to big boost, unless its a big turbo, still housings can be acquired for those at sensible money. :)

This all sounds like good news to me! Im going to send it to the turbo place we use at work an see what they say, i do have a bit of play in my shaft too which isn't good but i'll have to see what they say! So long as i dont have to spend big money on a new turbo i'll be happy!

Hi mate,

What tubby is it? and what company do you use at work for turbos, because we rebuild them too :)

I've currently got a 3071r that I'm rebuilding to sell on here soon as it's ready and will come with a manifold and forge actuator. Not sure what I'll be selling it for though as it's not going to be a cheap rebuild either!

Its just a standard t28 turbo, We use ITS turbo's in drighlington, he told me the cracks were pretty normal and that they wouldn't cause me a problem, he says most people think this causes a problem but a new turbo would crack in the same place very quickly. . . . . but the play in the shaft would cause a problem as it had side to side movement as well as up and down. He's going to change the bearings for me and put in a 360 degrees thrust bearing and I hope that everything else will be ok other wise it will cost more money. Its going to cost me about £225 for it all doing! Hope that sounds about right??
Just wondering, how much are you looking for your uprated turbo?

Yeah I know ITS.. and that's right they do crack and generally do not cause any issues but where possible we change them over. In/Out play is normal about a mill or two.. side-to-side isn't good as you risk scoring the housing internally and of course damaging the fins.

If the fins are okay then yeah £225 isn't a bad price really.. it's about as cheap as we'd do it anyway but when we open it up we always prefer to change all the seals & bearings whilst we got it open for which we'd charge £295+vat and give a years warranty.

They're a reputable company and know what they're doing so you're in good hands :)

I'm not sure what I'll ask for my uprated one yet.. I've got the manifold and the Forge actuator to go with it but until I've got some prices on the repair parts I won't know.. I don't even know what it's worth as a complete bolt-on kit.

Yeah, i thought they were a good company and he said he was looking after me, i think he's changing all the seals an that too because he said he would be fitting a repair kit an the 360 bearing, sayd there a right c**t to fit though! Hopefully ill have it back on friday to re-fit. Thanks for the thumbs up and the info anyway though mate, i've taken it all in!
