Big problems?

Sent my car to a local "tuner" :doh: last week to fit my twin plate clutch and quaife box. Aswell as this i had a tubular manifold i wanted fitting at the same time so gave that in aswell to be done as i wanted to get the car ready to be mapped next week.

However when removing the standard manifold they noticed lots of oil coming out of 2 of the ports on the head? Now im guessing ive got big problems? Funny thing is the car had a compression test a few weeks ago and came out perfect at 150psi on all four and i even had the car put on the rollers at the same time and was told everything was running fine.

Now have spoke to a few people and it looks like its going to need a full rebuild? :cry:

Crazy thing which i cant understand though is the place carrying out the work, there pretty well known and eventhough havent got the best of reputations out there because of recent problems they had, they carried on and fitted the tubular manifold after noticing the oil and only decided to tell me about the problem after it had all been fitted and i popped in to check on the progress. Was not happy about this atall.

Would you have been happy if they'd started the rebuild for you? I wouldn't
The place I got my clutch done didn't fit my 3" downpipe because he said the turbo was knackered. I wasn't happy at that. I'm still trying to kill that turbo over a year later and running my fastest times up the strip with it.

My personal thoughts on this are if it was running ok before, then get saving for the rebuild and drive the car for now. If it was in such a bad state then it shouldn't have been running so well and oil in the ports should have been burning off as smoke, telling you there was a problem. Having said that, my knackered turbo isn't smoking at all. (watch it blow up now)

Not sure what im going to do at the moment, the new manifold hits the intercooler pipe so its not even a case of me being able to drive it home without having to spend more money. Going to have to get them to custom make me a intercooler pipe up for £150 to be able to drive it home.

If you've had it compression tested, and you think it drives ok... shrug your shoulders and assume it's nothing serious; maybe the PCV gave the intakes a big slosh of crank case oil right before they turned the engine off?

I would have thought that if they thought it was serious they would have stopped, phoned you, and asked what you wanted to do; keep going with the manifold, or stop and get ready for the rebuild. I suppose that sometimes the person doing the work is just a grease monkey... in that they do what they're told and they don't think about it (monkey see, monkey do). Sometimes they fish for work; how you can tell if the ports are leaking oil now that they've put the manifold on?

Once they've sorted that intercooler pipe I'd take it home; if it drives OK with no big clouds of smoke I'd just forget that they told you there was a problem. If it's not ok, you could always ask why it has gone wrong after they looked at it.

you told me who it was who was doing the work for you but I forget......who was it again ?
