Top end rattling its tits off

Hi guys one of my Rs had a osf outer cv going and developed the old click click click and got really bad, bringing it home the other night there was what sounded to be a more noticeable rattle from it, but when i got just before the drive it was a knocking to high heaven!!!as in my father herd it from inside the house!!!...replaced the cv joint today its no better only let the car run say 60seconds, as in start in quickly run have a listen now im 90% sure its the head so i wiped the rocker cover off thinking maby one of the cam houseings had broke or somthing it was that bad but everything looked in oreder....havnt checked valve clearences but surely a "tappty" engine wouldnt knock THAT loud?????

as i said had a extramly quick listen as i ran from seat to front of car put my head underneath and on top il double check tomorrow

Yes Danny boy that was indeed my big ends! :cry:

I had to polish the crank even though at first it looked scrap, if you are thinking of now rebuild route PM me for details if not then Stevey P has a solid bottom end for sale ;-)

Cheers Jp mate... will i get away with just big end bearings? and will the crank need ground??
Until the rod caps are off its too early to say but if its knocking that bad then there is more likely damage to the crank. Polish job is not that expensive and you can get it balanced along with rods/pistons making it better spec than it was before.

Are you thinking of just slapping new shells in there and hope to get away? if so trust me dont take that route you will regret it and probably end up with knackered crank, rods and god knowes what else! :?
