quaffe, how to tell?

Hi All,

Can you tell it's quaffe by just looking at the box (turning it etc) or can you tell once you open her up?

open up the oil filler cap and look into the gbox you should be able to see 4th gear, im not sure how to tell apart from splitting it.. another way is to give it beans and if it doesnt brake at high torque then you must have one...as the standard ones are not as strong

The gearchange should feel slightly tighter compared to standard box, the gear ratio is slightly shorter apart from 5 which is the same is and they have a tendency to whine a little more than the standard box in all gears.........

Also sometimes you might see little tell tale signs of visible silicone gasket sealant round the gear casing joints

1st is longer. you should get 35 to 40 ish from first gear which you wont from a std. the whine is certainly noticable.

I'd agree you can usualy tell a quaife by the whine of the box.

that's only any good knowing that noise when it's fitted (and fucked bearing's sound similar too), if it's sitting on a garage floor looking at you will it whine then!! lol

Very true :lol:

if it's on the floor, split the box and take some pictures so the gearset can be compared to a standard one as you can definitely tell physical differences between the 2....
