Check boost pipes / intercooler pipes for leaks etc. This is a common issue.

Although better than under fuelling i would definately not run the car for too long in this state.

Snoon, your R looks amazing!!no offence to the rest of you guys ones look good too. Just love the colour!!
I think it might be the oil, I just bought it about a week ago and I didn't check the oil till the next day, and boy was it filthy so i'm just going to do service tomorrow and see how it goes from there!
I hope it's not anything serious because I just sold a celica which blew 4 engines and it cost alot!!

Why can't Aimee do it?

Moved.

As has been said, do a fault code check.
Take a look at your plugs when you do the service. - Use an appropriate grade of oil.
If everything else seems to be fine, check the turbo for excessive play.

I had a shit load of white smoke pour out my exhaust when I put on a catch can setup for the rocker cover breather. The ports on the catch can were way too small so pressure built up and pushed oil out thru the exhaust. Worth a check, if it has one, just disconnect the Hose on the rocker cover and see if it stops.

Ha - that picture would be like your Granny putting a picture of her when she was 20 as her face book picture!!

It's currently in about a thousand bits on my drive! As as most R's.

I'm afraid you've bought the wrong car if your not expecting problems.

Do a search on here on how to perform a fault code check - You only need a piece of wire and be able to count the flashes on the dash. Could be a sensor problem causing over fuelling.

I don't think it's the rocker cover breather bit, it's all untouched there! I was going to get it checked out today but by the time I got there, the smoking stopped. Don't know what it was!

I'd still recommend doing a fault code check to ensure you don't have any underlying sensor issues.

I was running with a faulty knock sensor for so long I melted a piston.

Damn!! I should check that out! I've got an apexi avcr boost controller, would the fault check work properly with that on? Or do I have to go and get it checked out by a mechanic with the diagnostics thingybob?

Yeah it will work. Works on any car with standard ecu.

Just short out the relevant PINS as per the instructions and count the times the light on the dash flashes.

snoon when you say you were running with a faulty det sensor what were the issues/problems whilst you were running with a faulty det sensor??

thanks

To be honest at the time I couldn't tell - But after having it fixed it was obvious it was down on power.

Melted a piston as it was massively over fuelling.

I probably ran with it faulty for around 8 months, maybe 7k - 8k miles.

how do u tell if its over fuelling?? ever since i have had the car it will not go up in the revs 1st gear is the best to about 4.5-5 thousand then it starts miss firing (i think) its as if it has hit the rev limiter at 4.5 thousand revs throught all gears ??

Have you checked all the usual things - Give it a service - ensure you have the right spark plugs and correct gap?

I had mine on a rolling road to be checked.
