my pikey caravans good for rent lol.

as the herring said though jim......you just dont know till the engines stripped.
trouble with standard pistons is because they are cast heat affects them not too favourably and they tend to crack ringlands whereas forge pistons will melt as will liner around top of cylinder, heads are also notorious for cracking between the valves if they are exposed to overheating, also oil thins so you then run risk of bottom end damage also.
anything could have caused this to happen you may have burst a pipe, water pump leaked, rads blocked, too much ignition advance... the list is endless then before you know it the things boiling up and then clouds of white smoke then its all too late!

plus the standard temp gauge is just about useless which dosent help spotting it early. If its not just under half way you have a problem!

What was it, a jetstream? :p

Unlucky mate, lots of us have been there. If you decide to go a bit mental when rebuildin git, why not buy an engine thats already had the work done-Bobby has a few and they come up for sale on here every so often. It works out a shit ton cheaper this way- eg I just found my old rebuild bill and its for £5800 just for labour and things like new valves&shims/gaskets/oil pump etc not including the £3k+ of parts fitted.

Could you just purchase a stock engine and maybe use your cooked one as spares? this will get you all running again and probably wont effect much and you can sort out the old engine at a later date or just keep it for bits and bobs, I wouldnt go too mad over forged etc as you are running a healthy 320 you wont gain much eccept maybe having to shell out on loads of other stuff! plus then your gbox might just go bang so you wont ever get that feeling of security realy
