Following on from a thread i posted the other day about what you would do with a GTIR if you started again I was thinking if you started with a totally standard GTIR in good nick and had, let say 7k to modify it, what would you do?

You could either to all cosmetics, all performance or a mix if the two for the ideal all rounder?, would you go the forged route or standard internals?...I'm just interested to what you can get for your money these days.

Are you doing all the work yourself? (apart from stuff like bore n hone n deck block which needs specialist gear etc etc)

If everything on the car is in good nick, then.....

BC coilovers
k sport 6 pot with 304 discs/ 290 ish discs rear
16 inch wheels n tyres
disco potato stylee turbo
3 inch exhaust
fuel pump
Z32 MAF
Mahooosive K&N filter
Nistune
short piped intercooler (Pace/Norris stylee)
rollcage

something along those lines...... which is sort of what i'm putting together (ahem)

best answer you'll get!
I do try lol.

I just bought a 240 bhp modified mini cooper S with AP brakes uprated susp and intercooler for 5.5k and it came with full heated leather seats chilly pack and heated screen plus some nice super legga alloys, Goes like stink handles and stops great and is a very comfy place to be, job jobbed.

Actually their is loads of room for me, Granted no one could sit behind me but seeing as their is only me the wife and our 8 year old daughter it's perfect, I like it and that's all that matters.

Id keep the GTIR standard, and buy something else 2 lol
GTIR is rubbish in std form. I had one that was so std that it still had the factory exhaust and air box on.
What a pile of crap. So i sold it and got a modded one that i could Improve even more.

Maybe I'm looking back at the GTIR through rose tinted glasses....until I starting playing silly buggers with mine and using a crappy tuner I had no problems.

If I went back into one it would be 350bhp with decent tubby and mgmt, proper tidy bodywork, decent handling set up, massive brake set up, quaife box...job done....that wouldn't break the bank and I'd like to think pretty reliable.

I can't help but feel like the GTIR is heading down the same route as the Renault 5 turbo.

Great car, loads of potential, a dwindling but cult following and you just don't see too many around and when you do to many are sheds.
