Moody electric windows

Hi, latest niggle is that my electric windows are playing up. Sometimes they work and sometimes they dont. The drivers side switch seems to work for the locking button when the windows fail, however only for the passenger side. Also when the windows fail the drivers and passenger switches go dead. They just both start randomly working again and never one without the other. Any ideas?

It seems to happen after my Clifford alarm has been in valet mode but getting them to work again is random. Sometimes folding the electric mirrors kicks the windows back to life but that may just be coincidence.

What state is the wiring like inside the door on the driver's side; that's the master control IIRC.
I'm just wondering if you've got a bit of a short because the loom will have the actator for the door locks (which is connected to your alarm and the button); the window control; and the control for the mirrors.

Most likely it's just that your switch is on the way out; 20-year old solder joints have failed and only make an intermitant contact. - That's quite common and fixed by sourcing a spare. I've got one from an Almera in mine... it's a bit confusing because there's controls for four windows.

theres another post on here that says it could be the control module and his symptoms seem identical to mine. He changed that and it fixed the issue. What is this parts correct name and part no?

you need the box underneath, but im too lazy to go outside and check the buttons. take your card off, take the box underneath off. replace with ebay one.

that's a link to electric window switches. You saying its not the switch but the box underneath the switch then? Anyone got a spare?

Is this the offending box?

I don't think I've got one of those in mine; was it installed with the alarm? I'm pretty sure mine just uses the pulsed feed to activate the locks.

I think that it only effects the windows where it's connected to the switches in the arm rest, so if there's a problem with that it might be sending erratic signals to the locks. - If I'm right about that being a non-standard part, then it could be completely unrelated and it's entirely down to the lock control in the switches...

I don't think I've seen one of those

Just had the switch in bits and cleaned it with isopropanol . It's back together and working now. Let's see how long it lasts

i dont think its the connections for the switch, i think its either a faulty chip intermittently working or a dodgy solder joint. Although the board looked fine.

its more likely to be the control panel underneath the window controls.it breaks with time, not just on pulsars but on all cars just imagine how many times its been used in 20 years
