Exhaust temp sensor

Ive got an acquaintance here that has a gtir. He says that when he "removes the rear lambda" a catalysor lamp ingnites on the dash. Ive explained that it is an exhaust temp. sensor. Are there different variants of this set-up. He has a RHD pulsar. I believe it is the check engine light he is referring to.

Can anyone shed any light?

unplug it from under the front drivers seat.

Thats what he´s done but a light ingintes on the dash when he does that.

well plug it back in, cut the wires and join them together.

I'm pretty sure mine is cut-off, but plugged-in. - Every now and then I get it wet and the light comes on, but that's not often.
