not sure on exact power gains but mongoose is a really good one to have from turbo back as depending on age you dont need the cat anyway

What really nets gains is a decent elbow on the turbo. - Most of the after-market systems aren't "turbo-back" they're "elbow back" so you're stuck with that crappy bit of twisted 2" steel right before your new exhaust.

I'm not a fan of the mongoose/blue flame systems; they're good value, but it's not long before they're just a megaphone screaming "pull me over" at the authorities. - Having said that, if you've got an old one you probably don't mind having some big muffler/silencers welded into it. Then you get the flow of a 3" system with little more noise than any other car on the road.

Similarly, I quite liked the departure system because the design made sense to me. However, it doesn't fit very neatly and those two cans hanging from the back are a magnet for speed bumps.

Obviously you get the best gains when you remap for the exhaust etc.

Where's best place to get a decent Elbow?? or is it easy enough to just make one from an S14 one?

Are there any aftermarket 3" systems still avaliable?

You could have a word with JANspeed and see if they have one left or will make you one they used to do a full system but its not cheap if they still do them. They also did just the front pipe in 3".

So what you're saying is by adding extra silencers to a 2.5" exhaust you get the flow of a 3" exhaust

mongoose are 2.5 inch iirc maybe even 2 1/4 .. departure 3 inch cat back system with custom 3inch front pipe and elbow is what you want

Get a decent exhaust fabricators to make you one on the island from scratch or pop over here to Pipewerx (Burscough), they do excellent 3" elbows and systems (custom)

The S14 versions I've always seen are hacked and bodged to fit, just my personal view anyway.

I work in the only decent exhaust fab place on the island, we only stock lengths of pipe and just use a pipe bender but at 3" the amount of crumple you get from the bender you would be better off with a 2.5" mongoos. Have looked into making a full system myself but would have to order up all the mandrel bends and take the time to make it. Would rather buy a bolt on system if I can fine one cheap enough as we only have a mig welder so it would never be very pritty what ever I make lol. Main thing is the elbow and down pipe as I can make the rest with the few mandrels I have and already made a 3" back box. Might give a go at an S14 elbow if i pick one up cheap enough.

Is quite limited to what yo can get or have made over here as most place only stock basic stuff.

The issue with the S14 elbow is that it's not made for an exhaust that goes down and under the engine; it's designed to go back and under the body, so the angles are all wrong. - Like Andy says, you can chop it up and re-weld it, but if you've got the parts on your shelf you might as well chop-up lengths of that and weld them into an elbow.

Is that using a mandrel? And what sort of bend radius is it?

I love the rest of your system but that has be the worst looking backbox ever, it just looks like it belongs on a saxo or something :yuck:

Yes it looks ugly but the pulsar is hardly a thing of beauty ...

Also and the ONLY reason it's fitted is it's SO SO QUIET
