Plugs and leads

What would be the recommended plugs and leads to use on my R...? It has iridium plugs atm and standard (looking) leads. Cheers

Ditch the Iridium plugs, I've had a couple fail on the R. The Grade 8 copper ones suggested are perfect for <400hp.

From my own testing on leads, OEM Nissan is the best balance as they allow sufficient plug gaps whilst maintaining the spark duration. Spark duration improves idle/low rev smoothness. It's all pretty marginal between OEM and the decent after-market items. Avoid the copy OEM stuff, I'm sure some are fine but others have caused people problems, it's a lottery.

I'll try to find the post.

If you want some blue ones I have some 8mm Magencor leads on the shelf with little use if you're interested.

Thanks Jim, appreciate your input!! I do have a little trouble with it hunting at low rpm on tickover but that improves once warmed up. I'd be interested in the leads, pm your deets and price. Thanks again, Russ

No problem Russ. Check your plugs are cleans and gaps are not too large (0.7mm should be fine) before changing anything though. You might be barking up the wrong tree.

If you do need a set then you can have mine for £15 plus delivery. I just looked on Ebay at the lowest used price for any magnecors so hope it's fair.

Do check you need them first though, it might be the iridiums causing you problems, they've caused me enough problems on the R!! No point wasting money.

This is exactly what I'm using, but I'm not pushing the envelope at all: Blue Magnecor leads with BCR8ES (copper core) plugs gapped to 0.7mm.

I found the iridium plugs fouled really easily which meant you could flood the engine and it wouldn't start; no such problems since the copper cores went it, they're gap and forget until next year.

Interesting, could be why mine is stinking of fuel and backfires like a shotgun when underload then..!! Thanks lads! I'll see what the outcome is after so Saturday fettling!!

The only time I had a problem with misfire under load it was because the plug gaps were too small. - Weaker spark gets blown-out more easily.

Is that picture before or after? I'd guess before cleaning but I never found the Iridium plugs cleaned up well.
