No wonder we get through so much fuel
If you can see out of the back window when it's raining, you'll notice how high the spray gets thrown
the fuel consumption would actually be worse if you got rid of the spoiler, as you'd have a more turbulent airflow close to the car, which would increase the drag. ;-)

i drove a car back recently from reading to essex in pretty gusty conditions late at night.
heres the naughty bit:oops: after touching 130 the spoiler decided it didnt like the car, and off it flew:lol: (luckily no one behind me)
but the car handled exactly the same without it, no difference what so ever! and thats at silly mph speed:roll:

so im inclined to agree with jim and say that its only use is for putting your coffee on, etc etc and the looks value!

afterall the vw golf gti or vr6 does not have a rear spoiler and its a similar shape to a gtir, and that handles nicely at speed without it.

think youve all been watching too much top gear, and the stig when he crashed whatever car it was, which he said would handle better with a spoiler, and it did!
but lets face it, an R isnt a supercar, its a brick on wheels!
