I feel for you,chris
Surely the pigmen don't think you stole the gtr from japan and imported over here :x
Have words with the importer ASAP.
Hope you get it sorted soon.

Gutted to hear this chris. Just so everyone knows to be aware the garage chris got it from was Watling Garage, no idea where it is but found it after reading his plight on the GTR board!

Thats shocking mate! Gotta be my worst nightmare as i was looking to import an RX or a GTR 32 myself soon.
There are plenty of insurances in place along the way though so i cant see it being too much of a problem getting your money back! Its just the time and hassle involved

Really sorry to hear this tragedy mate. Surely the Police and DVLA should be investigating this situation not just confescating your car. Did you have the responsibility of putting it through the SVA test etc etc when it was imported to this country?? If not did you take ownership (paperwork wise) of the car after 1st registration or has this problem arisen as a result of you trying to register the car with DVLA??

The Police should be tracking down how the car came into the country i.e. the importer and if they find that the importer has anything to do with the car being stolen (or knows that it was stolen) in Japan then you should be able to take this importer to court and win.

It will no doubt be a lengthy ordeal but if you get your money back and are able to either replace the car or pay off the loan then it will be worth while.

I would be contacting the Police, DVLA and your Solicitor for advice on how to proceed. £150 an hour is money well spent imo if you are able to get a steer from someone with a legal background.

Goodluck in this mate, real sad thing to hear.

Ant. :(

sorry to hear of this, this is some thing to worry about if you bought it from an importer as alot of are cars will have been brought that way.as for the police well they have all ways acted like that, makes them feel important.

take the receipts for what you have bought for the car as these parts are not stolen and remain your property . and if you have the old parts return them to the poice station . dont get angry it will not help if they are funny with you make a complaint you payed for these parts they must return them. if you can prove you bought them there yours then start with some legal action against the company you bought it from.do it now before the car dissapears

Chris, i'm gutted for you mate. Even though I'm ex Job I advice you seriously need to make an unofficial complaint about the way you have been treated, the police and the person who made the comment to your parents are well out of order, def complain! Especially when they know damn well it was you doing the checks that brought it to their attention, there was no need to treat you like that.

If it was stolen it this country then hopefully you have a better chance of getting some, if not all your money back (i know stolen over there and then imported here means its very diffcult to get money back as japanese insurance co's have the right to the car).

Figures crossed for you mate.

With that sort of money, you may even be able to get a Evo 8 ?! If not then a low mileage Makinnen in Silver or Blue would be my choice, with a few grand left for mods. However, a mint R33 still holds appeal 8)
